Dr. Leigh A. Carter is an assistant professor in the School of Education at AV.
Dr. Carter earned her doctoral degree through Saint Louis University. In her role
at AV, she serves as the coordinator of field experiences and teacher licensure
within the same department. With more than three decades of experience as an educator
in Missouri, Texas, and Arkansas, she has taught students across elementary, middle,
and secondary grade levels. Dr. Carter’s public school experience includes serving
as a teacher, principal, district director (GT and ESOL), and assistant superintendent.
Her research interests include mentoring practices to support early career educators,
equal access and a culturally responsive approach in teaching, and academic support
through wraparound services.
Having graduated from Mountain Home High School and being a long-term resident of
the Natural State, Dr. Carter appreciates the opportunities provided to her and her
family here in Arkansas. She is eager to give back and serve at AV. In her current
role, she is dedicated to preparing teacher candidates to be “Day-One Ready” for their
future teaching careers.
