Lion Voices: Jade Rogers
Happy Friday, Lions! We are kicking off Women’s History month, with this week’s #LionVoices feature, Student Government Association President, Jade Rogers. She is a junior psychology major from Roland, Oklahoma.
Jade said AV has enabled her to grow as a leader, step outside of her comfort zone, and challenge her abilities more than she knew was possible. “Continually working with other students, faculty, and staff has undoubtedly made me a better communicator, planner, and leader. I’ve gained confidence in myself and my decision making,” Jade said. “AV also brought my wonderful fiancé and I together, which is something I will always be grateful for.”
Jade said one of the most significant accomplishments she’s had at AV was during her Chancellor’s Leadership Class. She and her partner Callie decided to focus their efforts on an event that would combat student stress, hosting a yoga instructor on campus, a station to make your own stress balls and bath salts for home relaxation, and a painting station with pots, soil and flowers. This event ignited the desire in Jade to become more involved on campus. “After that, I knew I wanted to do so much more than simply come to class and go home.”
Jade reached out to her peer mentor who was also SGA President at the time, Claire Hollenbeck. Jade told her that she wanted to be involved and soon after she became the sophomore class representative. From there, she ran for president, the position she holds today, “It’s been one of the coolest experiences I’ve had at AV - getting to be a part of the conversations that create change.”
When asked what kind of legacy she wanted to leave Jade said, “To leave a legacy is to create a great impact, and while I will never impact everyone on campus, I hope those who know me will remember me as a helping hand and an encouraging voice.”
We are thrilled to celebrate Jade and all the other inspirational, successful, helpful women here at AV. Don’t forget to join us for our Women’s History Month events, listed here: /news/2022womenshistorymonth.php
