A tradition of celebrating the arts continues at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Already underway, but with plenty to enjoy – you can kick off the holiday season with the Stacey Jones Season of Entertainment.
The 2023-2024 season honors life and legacies with performances including “A Doll’s House, Part 2,” Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairytale opera “Hansel & Gretel,” musical ensembles, and seasonal favorites.

Masterworks Concert, featuring Poulenc’s “Gloria” – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7
Don’t miss the epic work of “Gloria” by Francis Poulenc, performed by the Leonis Chamber Singers and the AV¶¶Ňő Wind Ensemble. Both ensembles will also contribute works performed separately and will be joined by musicians from the community to present “Gloria” as the pinnacle of the concert. Admission is free, but a is required to attend. The Masterworks concert will be held at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center inside the Fort Smith Convention Center at 55 S 7th St., Fort Smith.
Jazz Band – 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9
The high-energy Jazz Band concert will feature student soloists and perform many jazz styles, including swing, Latin, and blues. Admission is free, but a is required to attend. The Jazz Band Concert will be held at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center inside the Fort Smith Convention Center at 55 S 7th St., Fort Smith.
Jazz Catz – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14
The AV¶¶Ňő Jazz Catz, a 10-member vocal ensemble and rhythm section, will present a diverse show featuring songs from jazz standards, blues, classic rock and pop, ballads, Latin, and more. Admission is free, but a is required to attend. The Jazz Catz concert will be held at the Grace Community Church at 4001 Brooken Hill Drive, Fort Smith.
“A Doll’s House, Part 2”- Thursday, Nov. 16 – Saturday, Nov. 18
The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Play, “A Doll’s House, Part 2” shows Nora and her family 15 years after Nora slammed the door on her stifling domestic life. A comedy at its heart, Nora returns to her old home with an urgent request. The show may not be suitable for all ages, with mature language and themes included. Showtimes and dates can be found . Each showing of “A Doll’s House, Part 2” is free, but a ticket is required to attend. Shows will be held at Breedlove Auditorium on the AV¶¶Ňő campus.
**Season’s Greetings Concert – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28
The AV¶¶Ňő Department of Music and Theatre returns with its seasonal concert featuring some of the most well-known and seasonal favorite music. Every major musical ensemble in the department will be featured, ending with a collaboration of all ensembles and the audience in the traditional sing-a-long. The Season’s Greetings Concert will be held at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center inside the Fort Smith Convention Center at 55 S 7th St., Fort Smith.
**Tickets are $10 and can be purchased . There is no admissions fee for current AV¶¶Ňő students, faculty, staff, or members of the AV¶¶Ňő 60+ Program, but a ticket is required to attend.
“Hansel & Gretel” – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 – Thursday, Dec. 7
For three nights, the AV¶¶Ňő Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop presents Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel,” a fairytale opera, based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale. Enjoy this wonderful opera experience, suitable for all ages. “Hansel & Gretel” will be performed at Breedlove Auditorium on the AV¶¶Ňő campus. Each show is free, but a is required to attend.
Music Faculty Showcase Recital – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30
Begin 2024 with individual and joint performances by the AV¶¶Ňő music faculty at First Presbyterian Church at 116 N 12th St., Fort Smith. The recital is free, but a is required to attend.
**“9 to 5” – Thursday, March 7 – Saturday, March 9
The AV¶¶Ňő Music and Theatre Department performs the comedic and empowering story, “9 to 5 the Musical,” based on the 1980 film of the same name. Follow the working lives of Violet, Judy, and Doralee as the trio navigates the low morale of Consolidated Industries and Franklin Hart. The play features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. The show may not be suitable for all ages, with mature language and themes included.

Wind Ensemble – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9
The AV¶¶Ňő Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, will perform works featuring a variety of styles and moods, from upbeat marches to dramatic and contemplative concert works. The concert will be held at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center inside the Fort Smith Convention Center at 55 S 7th St., Fort Smith. Admission is free, but a is required to attend.

A Grand Night for Singing – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23
Don’t miss the grand finale of the 2023-2024 Stacey Jones Season of Entertainment. A Grand Night for Singing will feature the AV¶¶Ňő Men’s and Women’s Chorus, Leonis Chamber Singers, and special guests from in and around Fort Smith. The concert celebrates all forms of choral singing, from contemporary choral favorites to modern pop tunes and musical theatre. Admission is free, but a is required to attend. A Grand Night for Singing will be held at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center inside the Fort Smith Convention Center at 55 S 7th St., Fort Smith.
