Prep for Finals with a Cozy Twist
University of Arkansas – Fort Smith students are invited to a night of finals prep at the semester’s end with a twist: pajamas.
Embracing the holiday spirit, the third installment of the AV Long Night Against Procrastination (LNAP) welcomes students from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, to the Boreham Library for a Long Cozy Night Against Procrastination.
Before her retirement, Student Success Librarian Karen Haggard brought the LNAP to AV to end the fall 2023 semester. The event grew from 150 students to more than 210, and this semester’s organizers are primed for even more to attend thanks to previous responses, said Dr. Mary Lutze, AV Writing Center director.
“Every semester, we survey students who attend, and we have incorporated their feedback to bring back old favorites at this Thursday’s Long Cozy Night Against Procrastination – like Puppies and Professors (new in the spring), waffles from Waffle House, and eSports involvement – and also use their ideas to bring in new offerings,” Lutze explained.
What makes this semester’s event cozy? Organizers are encouraging everyone who attends to wear pajamas while enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, snacking on popcorn, studying with friends, receiving tutoring help, or relaxing in the “Zen Room” or with puppies and kittens.
“There are as many different paths to student success as there are students at AV,” said Jordan Ruud, director of library services. “With the LNAP, we try to target our students on as many fronts as possible. Whether they need peace and quiet, the emotional boost of hanging out with dogs and kittens, or some crucial last-minute tutoring, they can find all that and more at this event. The point of LNAP is that crunch time doesn’t have to be painful. It should be productive and can maybe even be fun.”
The event is a collaboration among academic, student-centric services across AV, such as the Boreham Library, Academic Success Center, the AV Writing Center, Student Support Services (TRIO), the Babb Center for Career Services, and the Student Government Association.
If waffles and cute animals weren’t enough to encourage finals prep, students will have a chance to win a movie basket, a cozy hibernation basket, a finals prep basket, a bookstore voucher, and more, with prize drawings every hour beginning at 5 p.m. and two drawings at 8 p.m.
