The AV Symphonic Band -- made up of 49 AV students -- will present an evening of classic symphonic works on April 17, according to Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, director of bands at AV.
The 7:30 p.m. event at the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center at the Fort Smith Convention Center is part of AV’s Season of Entertainment 33.
“This concert highlights ‘new music’ composers from the 20th and 21st centuries, like Leonard Bernstein and Frank Tichelli,” said Zacharella.
Zacharella, a New Jersey native who moved to Fort Smith in 2007, is an associate professor of low brass in the Music Department. She has bachelor’s degrees in trombone performance and music education from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford (Conn.) and a master’s degree in trombone performance from the University of Michigan’s School of Music. She is a graduate of the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California and completed a doctorate in trombone performance with minors in music education, conducting and jazz studies.
