The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will hold its first-ever Family Weekend Oct. 21-22 to provide an opportunity for university students and their families to enjoy a weekend of events on campus.
The slate of events, which begin Friday afternoon and run throughout Saturday, are free to AV students and their families. Events include a chili cook-off tailgate, a Greek lip sync battle, and two performances of an original theatre program, among other events.
The event will supplant Homecoming as the university’s premier fall event after the Student Government Association passed a resolution moving Homecoming to the spring semester.
Stephanie London, director of student activities, said the event would be fun for the whole family.
“Family Weekend is a great opportunity for AV students to invite their family to campus and introduce them to their new Lion family, see what they are doing in and outside of the classroom, and get a taste of campus life, all while spending time with their families,” London said.
