Mandatory Fees Per Semester

Non-Mandatory Fees

Unlike mandatory fees, non-mandatory fees are not charged to every student. These fees apply to specific students based on their degree program, course selection, or other variables. Below is a comprehensive list of non-mandatory fees organized by college, activity, and function.

 


New & Continuing Student Fees

International Student Fees

International Student Orientation Supports the required two-day orientation for all first-time and transfer students in F-1 and J-1 non-immigrant status. This orientation includes sessions on campus resources, U.S. academic culture, and immigration guidelines, while also covering meals, materials, and transportation to help students connect with campus and community stakeholders for a successful start at AV¶¶Òõ. $75
International Student Services Charged each semester to all students in F-1 and J-1 non-immigrant status and supports the operations of the Office of International Relations. It enhances services for international students by providing resources on immigration compliance, community integration, and cross-cultural exchange opportunities. $350/semester
International Application Covers the additional costs of processing international applications, including credential verification and immigration advising services. $50
Study Abroad Application Applies to all students participating in AV¶¶Òõ-sponsored study abroad programs or exchange partner school trips. It supports the Office of International Relations in coordinating and expanding study abroad opportunities for AV¶¶Òõ students. $50

It supports the development, delivery, and maintenance of virtual learning platforms, ensuring students have access to high-quality education and resources regardless of location. $10/credit hour
College Technology  Supports the maintenance and enhancement of technology resources across campus, including computer labs, software, classroom technology, and online learning tools. It ensures students have access to up-to-date technology that supports their academic success at AV¶¶Òõ. $5/credit hour
College Facility  Supports the maintenance, improvement, and renovation of facilities within each college. $3/credit hour
Fitness Center Course  Charged to students enrolled in courses that utilize the Recreation and Wellness Center. It supports the maintenance, staffing, and equipment of the facility, ensuring a quality environment for health, wellness, and academic instruction. $25/course


College of Health, Education & Human Sciences Fees

  Nursing Programs  
BSN Nursing Program Supports the specialized resources, equipment, and instructional materials necessary for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. It ensures access to nursing-specific tools, simulation labs, clinical experiences, and advanced instructional resources that are essential for hands-on learning and preparation for a successful nursing career. $35/credit hour
BSN Program Assessment Fee - (starts 4th semester) Charged per semester beginning in the fourth semester of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. It provides students with Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) access, which includes content-specific and comprehensive NCLEX preparation resources. It supports the assessments and tools used to evaluate student learning and program outcomes, ensuring students are prepared for success in their nursing careers and licensure exams. $195/semester
BSN Nursing Laboratory Assessed for each lab course in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and provides students with skills and simulation lab supplies needed for hands-on education in the nursing program.  It covers the cost of maintaining state-of-the-art equipment, clinical supplies, and specialized learning materials that are integral to student success.  $50/lab course
BSN Nursing Skills Bag - (NURS 3225) This one-time fee is assessed for students enrolled in NURS 3225 and covers the cost of a nursing skills bag. The bag provides students with essential tools and supplies needed for clinical learning and performing clinical procedures. $200
ADN Nursing Program Supports the specialized resources, equipment, and instructional materials necessary for the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. It ensures access to nursing-specific tools, simulation labs, clinical experiences, and advanced instructional resources that are essential for hands-on learning and preparation for a successful nursing career. $35/credit hour
ADN Program Assessment Fee - (starts 1st semester) Charged per semester beginning in the first semester of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. The fee provides students with Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) access which includes content-specific and comprehensive NCLEX preparation resources. This fee will be removed in AY25-26. $195/semester
ADN Nursing Laboratory Charged for each lab course in the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program and provides students with skills and simulation lab supplies needed for hands-on education in the nursing program.  It covers the cost of maintaining state-of-the-art equipment, clinical supplies, and specialized learning materials that are integral to student success.  $50/lab course
ADN Nursing Skills Bag - (NURS 1215) This one-time fee is assessed for students enrolled in NURS 1215 and covers the cost of a nursing skills bag. The bag provides students with essential tools and supplies needed for clinical learning and performing clinical procedures. $200
Hurst Review - BSN (NURS 4011) & ADN (NURS 2247) This one-time fee covers the cost of the Hurst Review, a  three-day live comprehensive NCLEX preparation course, which is designed to provide students with the tools and strategies needed to succeed on the RN licensure exam. $410
Trac Pac - BSN (NURS 3165, NURS 4336) & ADN (NURS 1215, NURS 2237) This fee provides students with a one-year subscription to Trac Prac, a clinical tracking and skills documentation system. Trac Prac allows nursing students and faculty to manage clinical experiences in order to enhance educational experience.  Includes digital clinical evaluation, comprehensive student progress tracking and preparation for professional practice. $100/one-year subscription
Nursing Pin - BSN (NURS 4363) & ADN (NURS 2242) This one-time fee ensures each graduate receives a high-quality, personalized symbol of nursing program completion. The nursing pin is a time-honored symbol of a student's dedication, achievement, and transition into the nursing profession, serving as a meaningful reminder of their hard work and commitment to compassionate patient care. $50
ExamSoft - (excludes LPN and Graduate) This per-semester fee supports the use of ExamSoft, a secure assessment platform that facilitates exam delivery and provides detailed performance tracking.  ExamSoft enhances integrity and efficiency of testing in nursing education.  $36.50/semester
  Surgical Technology Program  
Surgical Technology Program Fee This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses in the Surgical Technology program. It supports specialized equipment, supplies, and resources essential for hands-on learning in surgical lab settings, ensuring students develop the skills and competencies needed for success in the operating room and their professional careers. $35/credit hour
Surgical Technology Laboratory This fee is assessed per lab course in the Surgical Technology program and supports the specialized supplies used in the skills lab and any accompanying resources that facilitate hands-on learning or clinical application. $50/lab course
Surgical Technology AST Gold Bundle Course Fee - (SUR 1526) This one-time fee covers the cost of the AST Gold Bundle. Provided by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), this bundle includes essential resources such as registration for the OAE (certification exam), study materials for OAE, and registration with AST as a student. $240
Surgical Technology Trajecsys Course - (SUR 153A) This one-time fee covers access to Trajecsys, a web-based clinical tracking system. Trajecsys allows instructors to see where the students are located for clinical rotations, perform evaluations (summative and formative), and provide preceptor evaluations for a well-rounded progression documentation. $100
Surgical Technology Board Vitals - (SUR 1525) & (SUR 1546) This one-time fee provides access to Board Vitals, a supplementary source for students and alumni to study for the OAE (Outcomes Assessment Exam). It is the most heavily relied on source used both in and out of didactic. Board Vitals offers comprehensive study tools, including practice questions and detailed explanations, ensuring students are well-prepared for success on their surgical technology certification exam. $120
  Imaging Sciences  
Diagnostic Sonography Program This per-credit-hour fee is charged only for courses within the Diagnostic Sonography program. It supports the specialized equipment, technology, and instructional resources essential for sonography education, ensuring students gain the hands-on training and skills needed for success in their field. $35/credit hour
Radiography Program This per-credit-hour fee is assessed only for courses within the Radiography program. It supports the specialized equipment, technology, and instructional resources necessary for radiography education, ensuring students gain the hands-on training and skills required for success in their field. $35/credit hour
Radiography Laboratory  This fee is charged per lab course and is assessed only for laboratory courses within the Radiography program. It supports the specialized equipment, supplies, and maintenance of lab facilities, ensuring students gain hands-on experience and develop the technical skills needed for success in the radiography field. $50/lab course
Radiography Trajecys Course - (RADT 1124) This one-time fee provides access to Trajecsys, a web-based clinical tracking system. Trajecsys allows instructors to keep a time record of student’s attendance at a clinical site.  Performance evaluations are also completed by the clinical instructor on each student.  $150
Imaging Science Laboratory  This fee is charged per lab course and applies only to laboratory courses within the Imaging Sciences program. It covers supplies used in the lab such as ultrasound gel, disinfectant for transducers, and laundry services.  $50/lab course
  Dental Hygiene  
Dental Hygiene Program This per-credit-hour fee is charged only for courses within the Dental Hygiene program. It supports the specialized equipment, instruments, and instructional resources essential for dental hygiene education, ensuring students receive hands-on training and develop the skills needed for success in their professional careers. $35/credit hour
Dental Hygiene Laboratory This fee is charged per course and applies only to laboratory courses within the Dental Hygiene program. It supports the specialized equipment, instruments, supplies, and maintenance of lab facilities and clinical courses, ensuring students gain hands-on experience and develop the clinical skills necessary for success in dental hygiene practice. $50/lab course
  School of Education  
School of Education Laboratory This fee covers supplies used in the classroom both on campus and in the field, travel to and from the public schools where classes are taught, and travel to the public schools to observe and assess students enrolled in practicum classes. It ensures students have access to hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for success in classroom settings and professional education careers. $20/lab course
Student Teacher Internship This fee is charged per internship course and covers the cost of paying mentor teacher stipends and travel for university supervisors to go out into the field to supervise and assess interns and meet with mentor teachers when there are issues.  It ensures education students receive the guidance and practical experience necessary to develop their teaching skills and transition successfully into professional classroom roles. $225/course
Student Teacher Internship (out-of-area) This fee is charged per internship course and supports the resources, supervision, and administrative costs associated with student teaching internships, specifically for when a placement for internship is outside of our normal placement area that is a 60-mile radius of Fort Smith. Driving times must be no more than one hour in Arkansas or Oklahoma. Candidates must get approval for placement and will be charged a minimum or $450 to cover the additional cost of travel and supervision. This is in addition to the Student Internship fee that covers the cost of the mentor teacher and travel. $450/course
  Healthcare Administration  
MHCA Program This per-credit-hour fee is charged only for courses within the Master in Health Care Administration (MHCA) program. It supports specialized resources, technology, and instructional materials that enhance learning and ensure students are prepared for leadership roles in the health care industry. $25/credit hour
Peregrine Student Data Trading System This fee is charged for two specific courses within the Master in Health Care Administration (MHCA) program and provides access to the Peregrine Student Data Tracking System. Peregrine is a comprehensive assessment tool that tracks student learning outcomes, measures program effectiveness, and ensures students are mastering key competencies needed for success in health care administration. $45/course
  Other CHEHS Fees  
Allied Health Program This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses within Allied Health programs. It supports the specialized resources, equipment, and instructional materials necessary to provide hands-on training and prepare students for success in their respective health care fields. $35/credit hour
CPR Card - (HLTH 2953) & (HLTH 1001) This one-time fee covers the costs associated with obtaining a CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) card for BLS certification, including training, certification, and processing. $10


College of Arts & Sciences Fees

Art Department Supply This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses within the Art Department and supports the cost of supplies, materials, and equipment essential for art instruction. It ensures students have access to the tools and resources needed to develop their creative skills and complete course projects successfully. $30/credit hour
Art and Design Technology This per-credit-hour fee supports the specialized software, technology, and equipment used in Art and Design courses. It ensures students have access to the tools and resources necessary to develop technical skills and produce professional-quality work in their creative fields. $10/credit hour
Computer and Information Sciences Laboratory This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the specialized software, hardware, and lab maintenance necessary for hands-on learning, ensuring students gain practical experience and develop skills essential for success in technology-driven fields. $35/lab course
IBM Blockchain Badge This one-time fee covers the cost of earning the IBM Blockchain Badge, a recognized digital credential that demonstrates a student's knowledge and skills in blockchain technology. The badge provides students with a competitive edge in the growing field of blockchain, showcasing their expertise to potential employers and supporting their success in technology-driven careers. $150
IBM Cybersecurity Badge This one-time fee covers the cost of earning the IBM Cybersecurity Badge, a recognized digital credential that demonstrates a student's proficiency in cybersecurity concepts and practices. The badge validates essential skills in protecting digital systems and data, giving students a competitive advantage in the cybersecurity field and enhancing their career opportunities in an increasingly security-focused industry. $150
Mathematics Laboratory This fee is charged per lab course and supports the resources, software, and equipment used in Mathematics lab courses. Science Laboratory - (Biology, Chemistry, Geoscience, Physical Science, Physics) This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the specialized equipment, materials, and supplies needed for hands-on experiments and lab activities, ensuring students gain practical experience and develop essential scientific skills. $35/lab course
Waste Disposal - (Chemistry) This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the proper disposal of laboratory waste materials in compliance with safety and environmental regulations. It ensures a safe learning environment while promoting responsible and sustainable laboratory practices. $15/lab course
Waste Disposal - (All non-chemistry lab courses creating waste) This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the proper disposal of laboratory waste materials generated in non-Chemistry lab courses. It ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations while maintaining a safe and sustainable learning environment for all students. $5/lab course
Private Music Instruction This per-credit-hour fee supports individualized, one-on-one music instruction provided by experienced faculty. It ensures students receive focused guidance and tailored feedback to develop their musical skills and achieve their academic and performance goals. $40/credit hour


College of Business & Industry Fees

Business Program - (all business courses) This per-credit-hour fee supports resources to support the AACSB accredited business program. Resources include, but are not limited to, industry-relevant software, professional development tools, and instructional materials.  $25/credit hour
Computer Aided Design Course This per-credit-hour fee supports specialized software, hardware, and equipment essential for CAD instruction. It ensures students have access to industry-standard design tools, hands-on training, and cutting-edge technology to develop the technical skills required for careers in design, engineering, and related fields. $25/credit hour
Electronics Technology/Electrical Engineering Course This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the specialized equipment, tools, and materials used in lab settings, ensuring students gain hands-on experience and develop the technical skills necessary for success in electronics and electrical engineering careers. $25/lab course
Engineering Laboratory This fee is charged per lab course. It supports the specialized equipment, materials, and technology used in laboratory instruction. It ensures students gain hands-on experience and develop the practical skills needed to solve real-world engineering challenges. $35/lab course
Organizational Leadership Program This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses within the Organizational Leadership program. It supports specialized resources, technology, and instructional materials that enhance leadership education, ensuring students develop the skills needed to effectively lead teams, manage projects, and succeed in a variety of professional settings. $25/credit hour
Unmanned Aerial Systems Course This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses in the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program. It supports the specialized equipment, software, and instructional resources necessary for UAS training, ensuring students gain hands-on experience and develop the technical skills needed for careers in drone operation and related fields. $25/credit hour
Welding Technology Course This per-credit-hour fee is charged for courses within the Welding Technology program. It supports the specialized tools, welding equipment, safety gear, consumable materials (such as metal, gases, and electrodes), and lab maintenance necessary for hands-on training. The fee ensures students gain practical experience in various welding techniques and develop the skills required to meet industry standards and succeed in welding-related careers. $25/credit hour


Testing Fees

Accuplacer Test This fee covers the cost of the Accuplacer exam, a placement test used to assess students' skills in subjects like reading, writing, and math. The results help ensure students are placed in courses that match their academic readiness for success. $5/test
Accuplacer Voucher Test This fee covers the cost of an Accuplacer exam voucher, which allows students to take the placement test at an approved off-campus testing location. The Accuplacer helps assess skills in areas like reading, writing, and math to ensure appropriate course placement for academic success. $35
Accuplacer Concurrent Test This fee covers the cost of the Accuplacer exam for concurrent students, helping assess their skills in reading, writing, and math. The results ensure students are placed in courses that align with their academic readiness, supporting their success in college-level coursework. $25/test
Business Majors - Fields Achievement Test (MFAT) This fee covers the cost of the MFAT, a comprehensive exam that assesses a business student’s knowledge and understanding of core concepts within their major. The results help measure academic achievement and ensure students are well-prepared for career success or further studies. $25/test
Challenge Exam This fee covers the cost of a challenge exam, which allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of a subject and potentially earn credit for a course. The fee is $20 per credit hour for which credit is being received. Successfully passing the exam helps students save time and money by progressing more quickly toward their degree. $20/credit hour
CLEP Administrative Fee - (Student)  This fee supports the administration of the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, which allow students to earn college credit by demonstrating mastery of course material. By successfully completing a CLEP exam, students can save time and money on their path to a degree. $25/test
CLEP Administrative Fee - (Non-student) This fee supports the administration of the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams for individuals who are not current AV¶¶Òõ students. CLEP exams provide an opportunity to earn college credit by demonstrating mastery of course material, offering a cost-effective way to accelerate academic progress. $40/test
CLEP Test - (payable to College Board) The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) test fee is paid directly to the College Board and covers the cost of taking the exam. This fee is separate from the CLEP administrative fee charged by AV¶¶Òõ, which supports test proctoring and administration. Successfully passing a CLEP exam allows students to earn college credit by demonstrating mastery of course material. $95/test
CLEP Written Essay - (payable to College Board) The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Written Essay fee is paid directly to the College Board and covers the cost of the essay portion of select CLEP exams. This fee is separate from the AV¶¶Òõ CLEP administrative fee and applies when an exam requires a written response to assess a student’s mastery of course material. Successfully completing the essay can help students earn college credit. $10/test
DSST Proctor - (Student) This fee supports the proctoring of DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) for AV¶¶Òõ students, ensuring a secure and reliable testing environment. DSST exams allow students to earn college credit by demonstrating their knowledge in specific subject areas, helping them save time and money while advancing toward their degree. **Please note, this fee does not cover the cost of the actual DSST exam, which is paid separately to the test provider. $25/test
DSST Proctor - (Non-Student) This fee supports the proctoring of DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) for individuals who are not AV¶¶Òõ students, ensuring a secure and reliable testing environment. DSST exams allow participants to earn college credit by demonstrating their knowledge in specific subject areas. Please note, this fee does not cover the cost of the actual DSST exam, which is paid separately to the test provider. $40/test
DSST Test The DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) fee is paid directly to the test provider and covers the cost of taking the exam. This fee is separate from the DSST proctor fee charged by AV¶¶Òõ. Successfully passing a DSST exam allows students to earn college credit by demonstrating their knowledge in specific subject areas. $100/test
Miller Analogies Test - (MAT) This fee covers the cost of the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), a graduate-level admissions exam designed to assess analytical thinking and problem-solving skills through analogies. The MAT helps students demonstrate their readiness for advanced studies, supporting their journey toward graduate school success. $65/test
NLN Pre-Admission Exam (PAX) PN This fee covers the cost of the National League for Nursing (NLN) Pre-Admission Exam (PAX) for Practical Nursing (PN) program applicants. The PAX assesses a student’s academic readiness in areas such as verbal ability, math, and science, helping ensure they are prepared for success in nursing coursework. Please note, this fee is separate from other testing fees, such as the Praxis exam. $35
Praxis Test - (paid directly to ETS/maximum) The Praxis Test fee is paid directly to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), the organization that develops and administers the exams. These tests are required for educator certification and assess the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching, helping students demonstrate their readiness to succeed in the education field. $209
TEAS - (paid directly to ATI) The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) fee is paid directly to Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI), the organization that develops and administers the exam. The TEAS assesses essential skills in reading, math, science, and English to determine a student’s preparedness for health science programs, helping ensure success in nursing and allied health coursework. $107

Diploma Replacement This fee is charged to individuals requesting a replacement diploma. It covers the cost of printing and processing the new diploma, ensuring graduates can maintain an official record of their academic achievement from AV¶¶Òõ. $20
ID Replacement This fee is charged to individuals requesting a replacement student ID card. It covers the cost of producing a new ID, which provides access to essential campus services, facilities, and student resources at AV¶¶Òõ. $20
Returned Check  This fee is charged when a check is returned due to insufficient funds or other payment issues. It helps cover administrative costs associated with processing returned payments and ensures the university can maintain efficient financial operations. $30
Graduate Program Admission Application This fee supports the processing and evaluation of applications for admission to graduate programs at AV¶¶Òõ. It helps ensure a thorough review process, allowing the university to assess applicants’ qualifications and readiness for advanced study. $50
Key Fob for Multi-Factor Authentication This fee covers the cost of purchasing a key fob for multi-factor authentication through the IT department. Late Payment Fee (Installment Plan) This fee is charged to students who miss a scheduled payment within their payment plan. It helps cover administrative costs associated with managing late payments and ensures the continued availability of flexible payment options to support students’ financial success at AV¶¶Òõ. $10/month

Motorcycle Parking Permit This fee covers the cost of a parking permit for motorcycles, valid for one academic year, allowing access to designated motorcycle parking areas on campus. Additional Faculty & Staff Parking Permit Faculty and staff receive one free parking permit per academic year; however, this fee is charged for each additional permit requested.
